In a first, a couple from Tamil Nadu have something special planned for their big day. A project associate, in IIT Madras, Dinesh SP and his fiance, a software developer Janaganandhini Ramaswamy, are set to tie the knot on February 6 and later that day will host their dream reception from their most liked location - Hogwarts castle. Their reception venue will be the Hogwarts dining room, and in this first of its kind reception, the couple will meet and greet their family and friends in a virtual avatar in metaverse.

The couple, who are both Potterheads, will tie the knot at Sivalingapuram village in Krishnagiri district.

In a post on social media, Dinesh wrote, "I am into Blockchain, NFTs, and Crypto. I have planned to conduct my reception in Metaverse, so it's going to be the first metaverse marriage ASIA (India would like to give the metaverse experience to all. And moreover, in this pandemic time, social distancing and overcrowding can be avoided via a metaverse."

He also explained how Janaganandhini's father, who passed away last April, would also be part of the wedding. A realistic 3D virtual avatar of her father has been created in the metaverse to attend the couple's marriage function.

The bride, Janaganandhini, was excited about the reception and overjoyed to have her father's presence at the wedding. "I had to ask him many times to understand this concept and even now I am not sure how this will be. I am so happy that my father's virtual avatar will be there for my wedding even though he wont be there physically. I was shattered when he passed away, but now Dinesh is bringing him back virtually for us," she told IndiaToday.in.

Dinesh said, "It would be a new way of the afterlife in metaverse, and I hope it will be a great event in Metaverse for first timers in India. I have been collaborating with Vignesh Selvaraj founder of TardiVerse Indian (Chennai) based startup, for this project, they developed a metaverse based on Polygon Technology Blockchain."

In the groom’s words, "Simply put, a Metaverse is a digital space represented by digital representations of people, places and things. In other words, it's a ‘digital world’ with real people representing digital objects. In many ways, Microsoft Teams or Zoom is already a form of a Metaverse. You are ‘there’ in the room, but you may be a static image, an avatar, or a live video. So the Metaverse is a broader context for ‘bringing people together’.”

The couple met through social media and fell in love. After several hurdles they were finally able to convince the family. The project of metaverse reception has been in work just for the last two weeks and the couple will have a mock drill on Jan 22 to see how the concept goes.
