According to the speculations in media circles, the Sakshi management who are in financial constraints due
to the ED seizure of Jagan assets in the past year has approached Times of India.
While the hitch is completed and Jagan intends to get back the control on Hyderabad edition to project his
political activities, TOI which already has a Times Now channel is eager for land assets in Hyderabad and
Seemandhra as Sakshi TV could be used as a Telugu unit of their network.
A TOI spokesperson informed that the logistics will be developed as per the TOI plan and are also that they
are not eager to accept the Sakshi team as and now on ground as most of Sakshi land assets in Telangana
have been seized by the ED.
Earlier in the beginning negotiations, TOI expressed interest in the brand new equipment (printing
machines) and also the land assets of the Sakshi group when Jagan was in jail. But after his release, Jagan
put off the TOI deal with hopes of winning general elections of 2014 and had borrowed heftily in the market
for running the papers and elections.
Now, the Sakshi Empire has been brought down by ED seizures mostly in Telangana with some offices being
shut down too. Hence the talks with TOI have gained credence for taking over Sakshi Daily. Before
elections, TOI bought the Kannada newspaper group Vijay Karnataka for English, Telugu and are operating
them with limited exposures.
KCR in view the challenges posed by the TRS publications, is planning an English Daily and is opposing
Times group as Sakshi would strengthen the TOI stable against the TRS government. Also, TOI plans to
strengthen itself with a Telugu and English print along with TV channel networks.
TOI at present are concerned over the Coastal/Rayalaseema market as the highest Ad revenue figures in the
face of Hyderabad. But with the collapse of DC, TOI is strengthening its base with Sakshi and DC
